1. Sign in
Available now on this website: read how journeys, labels and account deletion work. There is no public Play Store listing yet.
Coming next: phone login with a one-time code. The Android app is built for that flow, but production OTP delivery is not enabled on the public deployment. Do not expect a WhatsApp code from the live site today.
When login is switched on: use a number you control, confirm you are 18 or older, and never share the code. The app will store a rotating login token in protected device storage.
2. Set up the journey
- Choose your current location, a saved place, a stop or station, a search result, or a point on the map.
- Choose the destination in the same way.
- Use Leave now, Depart at or Arrive by.
- Open preferences when you want to adjust walking distance, transit modes or wheelchair preference.
A precise location is used to calculate the requested journey. Saved places remain on the device by default.
3. Compare the choices
Journey cards describe different trade-offs — labels match what you see in the app:
| Card | What it prioritises | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Fastest | Lowest practical total travel time | Walking and transfers |
| Shortest route | Shorter overall route distance | Waiting and service frequency |
| Likely cheapest | Relative public-transport cost from available fare data | Confirm the actual fare with the operator |
| Fewest changes | Fewer or simpler transfers | Extra time compared with fastest |
| Direct bus | No vehicle change | Direction, boarding stop and extra travel time |
Metro is included when the complete option, including access walk, waiting and transfer, remains useful. A nearby station is not automatically the best option.
4. Follow the journey
- Check the route number, destination or headsign and boarding direction.
- Use stop-side or entrance notes where available, but follow signs and staff instructions on site.
- Review every walk, wait, board, ride, transfer and alight step in the timeline.
- Keep the app in the foreground when using active-trip guidance. Background notifications are not guaranteed until their release gate is complete.
- Replan if you take a different route, miss a transfer or encounter a closure.
5. Saved and offline information
Saved places, favourites and recent activity are stored on the device. The latest compatible journey may be reopened for a limited offline period, but Sarathi does not currently promise city-wide offline replanning. Check the dataset version and warning labels before following an older result.
6. Understand the data label
See the dedicated data labels page and the landing-page overview.
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Scheduled | Derived from a published timetable or GTFS schedule. It is not a live prediction. |
| Typical | An estimate based on known service patterns or historical assumptions. |
| Cached | Previously fetched information that may be older than the current service state. |
| Live | Backed by a configured, authorized and sufficiently fresh realtime source. It can still be delayed. |
| Unavailable | Sarathi does not have enough trustworthy information for that field. |
7. Account and privacy controls
- Log out: revokes the current server session and removes the local login.
- Delete account: removes the account and all login sessions from the authentication database.
- Clear recent places: removes the locally stored recent-place list.
- Analytics: turn optional product analytics on or off.
- App uninstall: removes protected local tokens but cannot instantly tell the server that the app was removed. Sign in again and delete the account if you also want the server record removed.
8. Get help or report a correction
Open Settings → Send feedback. Include the route or stop, travel direction, approximate time and what was wrong. The diagnostics section can share app, dataset and request references without sharing your OTP.
For a privacy request, begin the message with “Privacy request” and say whether you want access, correction, deletion or another review. Never include an OTP, access token or refresh token.
